.aiff- Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) is an audio file format standard used for storing sound data for personal computers and other electronic audio devices

animated GIF- An animated GIF grahpics intercharngabe format) file is a graphic image on a Web page that moves ex the american flag moving back and forth


bit- a single number that stores a single string of information

bitmap- type of memory organization or image file format used to store digital images to your computer.

bmp- an image format file used to store bitmap digital picures

bps- the speed at which data is being transferred on the computer (bits per second)

browswer- software application for retrieving and presenting information resources on the World Wide Web for everyone to see

byte- a sequence of 8 consecutive bits to store data

cache- a hidden storage place that remembers what websites you go to so your computer can reach it faster

cookie- a short line of text that a web site puts on your computer's hard drive when you access the web site

dpi- dots per inch it is used when storing pitcures to your cmputer

Ethernet- a type of network technology for local area networks cable carries radio frequency signals between computers at a rate of 10 megabits per second (normally you connect to you miniter and internet modem to connect to the internet)

extension- used to connect one piece of software to another piece

firewall- software that is used to block unathourized software and websites frm being accessed by your computer (ex pornograhpy, video games, bd music)

firewire- an alternativ usb wire mostly used to connect camaras to the computer

gigabyte- a big unite of info equal to 1024 mb or 1,073,089,000 bytes

gigahertz- the speed of computer measured in mhz megahertz

html- stands for HyperText Markup Language fixes up words you miss spelled or paragraphs not lined correctly


hyperlink-  link from a hypertext file to another location or file; typically activated by clicking on a highlighted word


intranet- a private computer network that can not be seen through world wide web

javascript- a scripted language that allows you to run more than application at the same time

kilobyte- unit of info equal to 1000 bytes

megabyte- unit of info equal to 1024 kilobytes

MP3-  creates small files to download things off of the internet.

operating system- software that controls the execution of computer programs and may provide various services


pixel-  the smallest number of component on the screen to view pictures

URL- uniform resource locator used to assess the world wide web

wireless- no wires or anything attached wifi connection
